Start Your Day Off Right With These Healthy Morning Routines
March 27, 2024
Have you ever had something go wrong in the morning that ultimately throws off everything for the remainder of the day? No matter what you try to do, everything seems to go poorly as things tend to spiral. The way you start your morning has a significant impact on how the rest of your day goes. In our ever busy lives, responsibilities pile up causing stress. You can better manage this stress and prepare for a successful day by following these healthy morning routines:
1. Drink Water
While many folks start their day with coffee, water is an even better choice! Don’t worry, you can still have your coffee, but start with water! As we sleep, our bodies lose water via sweating and breathing. By drinking water when you first wake up, you can rehydrate the body. This will flush toxins from your system and even helps boost your metabolism! Add some lemon to your water to give it more flavor.
2. Meditate or Journal
Meditation can help you gather your thoughts, clear your mind and prepare for the day ahead. Many people who participate in meditation find it helps reduce both stress and anxiety. By meditating, you can begin the day with a positive tone and outlook that can be carried throughout the day. Spend a few minutes each morning writing down your thoughts in a journal. Jot down positive affirmations to give yourself the confidence you need to attack the day!
3. Make a Plan
Nothing can throw a wrench into your day quite like not having a plan for what’s ahead. Making a plan for completing all of your tasks and responsibilities for the day is one of the best healthy morning routines you can try. When we don’t have a plan, things pile up and can add to our stress, making us feel as if there’s no way we can get everything done. A plan lets us know when, where and what we should be doing in order to achieve everything while also holding us accountable.
4. Get Moving
Prepare your body and mind for the day by getting active! Exercise gets the blood pumping, which can give you energy, improve your cardiovascular health and help to lower stress levels. A quick morning workout, such as something as simple as a walk with the dog, can provide a number of both physical and mental benefits. Physical activity gives the brain a boost, which can aid in decision-making ability, memory and focus. Simple stretches can help you loosen your muscles and help you feel more relaxed.
5. Soak Up Some Sunshine
Spending a little time outside can truly brighten your day! Getting some sunlight helps regulate the body’s sleep-wake cycle and cortisol levels, which play a vital role in response to stress. When you get outside, sunlight lets the body know it’s time to wake up and get going, providing you with increased energy. Spending time out in nature has been shown to help relieve mental health issues like depression and anxiety!
